Melanie Blackwell - Actor
Melanie graduated from the theatre program at
Gastown Actors Studio in 1999. During her two years of study, she performed in thirteen plays and one feature length film. Highlights include roles as Susan inThe Heidi Chronicles (1999), Puck inA Midsummer Nightís Dream (1999) and Janet inWaiting for the Parade (1998).Since graduation, Melanie has created and performed in theatre, film and television. In 2001, she co-wrote and co-starred in the critically praised Vancouver Fringe show
The Goodtime Girls atthe Waterfront Theatre . She was nominated for aLeo Award in the best supporting actress category for her work inCold Squad (season V, episode 66). As well, she has acquired roles onDa Vinciís Inquest and numerous other television shows and independent films. Melanie continues to study her craft of acting at the esteemedLyric Project under the instruction ofMichele Lonsdale-Smith andKate Twa .Her experience in the technical aspect of independent film and theatre varies. She has experience in casting and assistant set decoration (
Pecking Order , 2004), publicity (Lobby Hero , 2004 andTrue West , 2001),script supervision (Jerryís Day , 1999) and stills photography (Bittersweet , 1999 andFancy Cats 2000). Currently, she is in the process of writing her first feature length narrative film.
