Melanie Blackwell - Actor

Melanie graduated from the theatre program at Gastown Actors Studio in 1999. During her two years of study, she performed in thirteen plays and one feature length film. Highlights include roles as Susan in The Heidi Chronicles (1999), Puck in A Midsummer Nightís Dream (1999) and Janet in Waiting for the Parade (1998).

Since graduation, Melanie has created and performed in theatre, film and television. In 2001, she co-wrote and co-starred in the critically praised Vancouver Fringe show The Goodtime Girls at the Waterfront Theatre. She was nominated for a Leo Award in the best supporting actress category for her work in Cold Squad (season V, episode 66). As well, she has acquired roles on Da Vinciís Inquest and numerous other television shows and independent films. Melanie continues to study her craft of acting at the esteemed Lyric Project under the instruction of Michele Lonsdale-Smith and Kate Twa.

Her experience in the technical aspect of independent film and theatre varies.  She has experience in casting and assistant set decoration (Pecking Order, 2004), publicity (Lobby Hero, 2004 and True West, 2001),script supervision (Jerryís Day, 1999) and stills photography (Bittersweet, 1999 and Fancy Cats 2000).  Currently, she is in the process of writing her first feature length narrative film.
