| Chris Dembiske - Screenwriter Chris Dembiske is new to the Sabeth Productions list of contributors; the short film, Woke, which she is currently writing with Anneli Ekborn, is her first collaborative endeavor with Sabeth. She and Anneli are no strangers, mind you; the two became friends in 2000 when Anneli was so gracious to agree to be Chris’ Assistant Director and mentor on her first short film, The Sabbatical. Dembiske plans to take the relationship up a notch in the near future, working with Anneli on various feature screenplays for Sabeth Productions. Born and raised in Vancouver, Chris’ formal education nevertheless began at Ontario’s York University, where she studied English and Film History in 1998. She fled back home shortly thereafter though, to attend Simon Fraser University’s film program. At SFU, Chris has met with greater success, co-writing, directing and co-editing the short The Sabbatical which screened at the 25th Montreal World Film Festival in 2001, and winning the Praxis Centre for Screenwriter’s Drama Prize for her short script, Dance Sequence, in 2002. The completed 16mm version of Dance Sequence, a darkly comic film about a man who decides to kill himself while his roommate is home to bear witness, was also directed, produced and edited by Dembiske and has been selected for the “Louis Le Prince” short film competition at the 17th Leeds International Film Festival, 2003. Chris Dembiske is currently developing a number of features of her own, including War Movies, a film about a war-obsessed Canadian exchange-student who’s failed relationship with her English History Professor has explosive results.
