Brent Belke - Composer
Brent Belke, born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta, calls Vancouver home. As founding member of seminal punk band, SNFU and the power pop outfit, Wheat Chiefs, Belke recorded nine albums and toured extensively throughout North America, Europe and Australia. He began composing music for film with the television documentary I WANNA BE ADORED, narrated by Jello Biafra and Bif Naked, and Mina Shum’s docudiary film; THIRSTY. His feature film composing debut came with the release of Shum’s DRIVE, SHE SAID, where he wrote additional score, as well as songs. Since then, he has scored numerous independent films, including James Dunnison’s FLY: THE POWER OF PERSUASSION, ORGAN MUSIC and PRETTY BOYS, Mina Shum’s video poem Looking For Gandl. He also wrote songs for Disney Channel’s series SO WEIRD. Recent projects include Julia Ivanova’s I Want A Woman soon to be broadcast on CBC and Matt Sinclair’s short film Exposures. His formal training includes composition studies at Simon Fraser University and Vancouver Community College.
